Open And Love or Close and Suffer…

(Why You Have to Assume the Best,
Rather Than the Worst in Men)

You’ve been hurt by men before. You’ve been hurt bad. You’ve vowed to learn from the experience and protect yourself from that ever happening again.

And to protect yourself from being hurt by a man, you:

Choose not to date at all.
Try to make him earn your trust.
Pull away from a guy at the first hint of trouble.
Tell him your relationship goals on the first few dates.
Want to clarify where things are headed in the first few months.

Those are all perfectly rational. The problem is: the only thing you’re protecting yourself from is the possibility of falling in love.

Look at your life. You probably work a minimum of 40 hours a week. You probably have friends and hobbies and family. You’re probably really, really, wary of men.

And because of your previous experience, you do everything in your power to prevent the “wrong men” from getting in. You’re vigilant about looking for the red flags to protect yourself from getting hurt. And you find them everywhere you go. As a result, you remain single for years at a time.

Think of it like a visual metaphor. You live in a house. Mr. Right is walking down the street, trying to find his Ms. Right. There are two houses right next to each other that look identical. They’re gorgeous, modern, spacious, well-decorated, inviting. Except for one minor thing. The house on the left has a 10 foot brick wall around it. The house on the right has an open door, upbeat music playing, and the smell of chocolate chip cookies wafting out.

Which of these identical houses do you think Mr. Right is going to peek into?

It’s kind of a no-brainer.

Now you can make the argument that the RIGHT man would try to figure out how to scale the 10 foot wall. You can make the argument that the REASON there’s a wall is that there’s some crime in the neighborhood and you’d been robbed twice before. You can justify that protective wall in every way possible. But it doesn’t change the bottom line.

A good man doesn’t need to break down or scale your wall. He’s just going to look for a warm, inviting, open door.

A good man will not be able to find you if you’re working 11 hours a day.
A good man doesn’t need to earn your trust if he’s never done anything wrong.
A good man may have a number of characteristics that you might not like.
A good man takes relationships seriously and can’t promise that he will know after a few months that you are destined for the altar.

So while I deeply empathize with you if you’re trying to avoid “wasting” time by trying to figure out the future before HE knows the future. Just know that you’re sabotaging any real chance you have to form a real trusting connection.

You have to go in with an open mind and a clear head. At any point you have the right to determine that he’s not the one for you, and he has the right to determine that you’re not the one for him. It’s called dating.

Instead of trying to figure everything out up front to protect yourself from getting hurt, give yourself to the process and let him reveal his character over time.

Opening the door and assuming the best will make the good men gravitate towards you.

Treat him as if he’s going to hurt you and a good guy is not going to want to stick around.

It’s interesting, just the other day I was thinking about why some women complain about their love lives, yet will do NOTHING to change their situations – even when the solution is staring at them in the face.

And I realized that these women simply must not put as much value on love and happiness as they think.

Which really got me thinking: What IS valuable?

Is value derived from how much pleasure you get out of something? A trip to Paris. A new Mercedes. A gorgeous pair of shoes.

Or is value derived from how much pain is prevented? Chemo to eradicate a cancerous tumor. A year of therapy to help you cope with a loss. An eyelift to make you feel younger.

Personally, I think the removal of pain is a LOT more valuable – for two reasons.

It’s hard to put a price on happiness or pain, but each time you make an investment, you’re doing just that.

Me, too. My physical therapist is supposed to heal my bad hip. Apparently, it’s worth a few thousand dollars for me to be able to run again. It’s not that I’m a triathlete, but by removing my source of pain, I stand to be a much happier person.

In short, removing pain opens you up to pleasure.

So let me ask you: how much pain have you been carrying around due to a lifetime of disappointing relationships?

What has it cost you emotionally each time you’ve gotten your heart broken?

What has it cost you in terms of time, energy, mental health, and happiness?

How much would it be worth if you could remove the source of your pain FOREVER, and create the opportunity for EVERLASTING LOVE with a good man?

If removing the source of your relationship pain can immediately make you happier AND lay the groundwork for you to find love, I’d think you’d do so, at any cost.

But it will pay greater dividends than just about any purchase you’ve ever made.

I’m about to explain the single most important factor in getting positive results from any type of workout or exercise.

The average person who works out at the gym or even at home looking to lose some weight and tone up probably does 3-4 sets of anywhere from 8-10 reps for 4-6 resistance training exercises, where they lift the weight and lower the weight. Why Time Under Tension Matters

Time under tension just refers to how much time the muscles being worked are under stress. Basically, if you lift a weight and it takes you 30 seconds to complete that set, you have a total time under tension of 30 seconds. If you’re using a tempo of 2-1-3 for instance, which means it takes you 2 seconds to perform the lifting part of the movement, you’ll take a 1 second pause at the top, and then you lower the weight back down over a 3 second time period, your total time under tension would then be 6 seconds per rep.  Complete 10 reps total and you’ve just achieved a ‘TUT’ of 60 seconds.

Now, to calculate the total time under tension, you would then multiply your total TUT per set by the total number of sets you’re going to perform of that exercise, and then add together all the values for each exercise of your session. That then gives you the time under tension for the workout.

Sound a little confusing? Well, it is!

After my first session I was truly motivated. I began to realize that there were many aspects of my lifestyle affecting my sleep, things I could change and control myself, without the need for pills.

For a start I was involved in music, which meant late nights and going to bed at different times. I was also partial to the occasional cigarette before bed, something I then foolishly believed to be a relaxant.

Over the course of six weeks, my therapist taught me many interesting things about sleep, like how the body responds to light exposure, and how hormones and brainwaves play a major role in the sleep–wake cycle.

We spoke about exercise and diet and how humans lived 10,000 years ago compared to how they live in modern times. It was incredible, and just learning more about sleep dramatically improved my sleep.

These sleep hygiene sessions changed my life in one fundamental way; they helped me turn the table in my favour. The knowledge gave me control.

I had been given the power to cure my insomnia using natural means that I was already in ownership of.

And so I manifested what I had learned and undertook a research mission. I put myself through trial and error until I completely understood every aspect of my environment and lifestyle that might possibly be affecting my sleep.

I studied sleep through the ages, comparing the sleeping pattern of our hunter-gatherer ancestors with that of modern man.

I discovered that insomnia had begun manifesting itself in society post the invention of electricity, and even more so post the agricultural revolution.

As I dug deeper, I discovered that just about everything humans were doing was counterproductive in getting a good night’s sleep.

From an unhealthy sleep-wake cycle and lack of sun exposure to lack of exercise, eating the wrong foods, negative brain stimulation and an unfavorable sleeping environment, it’s no wonder we are all struggling to sleep!

Through this research I founded the Six Steps, a process that reprograms the body and creates and health sleep-wake cycle using good sleep hygiene methodology.

After researching lifestyle and environment, I began studying brainwave activity and the way the brain responds to varying lifestyle conditions.

I learned that brainwaves work in the same way electrical equipment does. Brainwaves are measured in Hz, and like electricity the current changes when turned up or down.

For example, when we are in high states of anxiety the speed of our brainwaves increases, and when we are relaxed the speed of our brainwaves decreases.

When the brain is fully aware and awake (in the Beta state) it runs at around 20 ~ 40 Hz, when we are in a very relaxed state (the Theta state) the brainwaves run at around 4hz-8hz, and in deep sleep (the Delta state) our brains run at around 1-4hz.

This made absolute sense to me because my sleep therapist had mentioned years earlier that in order to induce sleep we have to slow down brainwave activity.

The Six Steps I’d developed already did this through the use of ‘mental triggers’ that help the brain associate bed with sleep, but I found an effective way of enhancing this process by listening to special meditation music that uses theta and delta frequencies within the recording to relax the mind.

I discovered that it was possible to slow brainwaves down by entraining the brain to release theta waves for deep relaxation and delta waves to promote deep sleep, simply by listening to this special music.

This was a major discovery that became the proverbial icing on the cake.

I believed in this until I noticed something peculiar – some people were somehow able to step out of their old lives to live magnificent new lives filled with happiness and satisfaction.
